Jan Sweeney, who is the Program Coordinator for Brookdale Chatfield’s independent living facility was one of the individuals who was gracious enough to share her thoughts on Brookdale Chatfield.
When asked what made her decide to work at Brookdale Chatfield, she explained “It’s more than just a job for me, it’s become my second home. My residents are also my family. I truly love my job, and how I leave a positive impact on their days by keeping them engaged and happy.”
Kesha Guy, who is the head of the Personalized Living Department, is an individual who helps the residents quality of life. Her department consists of certified nursing assistants, who are professionally trained to help individuals with their health care needs.
When asking Kesha how she feels about her job, she stated, “Being in the position I am in, I am able to help people who need a little extra care and help keep their quality of life at a maximum while they reside here at Chatfield. It means a lot to the residents themselves, as well as their families. Our main priority is keeping our people safe, comfortable, and secure.”

When an individual joins Brookdale Chatfield’s community, they are not only becoming apart of a community, they are now home. Although the transitional period can be overwhelming for most people, the staff and residents at Brookdale Chatfield go above and beyond to help someone new feel welcomed.
When a new resident has officially moved into their new home, they are welcomed with a basket that had been put together by the marketing department. In the basket there are souvenirs such as coffee mugs embroidered with Brookdale Chatfield’s logo, pens, papers, magnets, etc.
New residents are also paired with a current resident who is considered their welcome ambassador. They are paired up by similar interests, hobbies, activity level, etc. This helps any new resident have an easier transition when entering their new home.
Breakfast and dinner are two meals that are served to residents at a high quality restaurant style every day. There are severs who will take their order, bring them any refreshments, their meals, desserts, and any other item someone may need. Residents also have the option of dinning in the newly renovated bistro area for lunch. The bistro also has refreshments and snacks in the bistro all day for residents and guests to enjoy.
There is a maintenance department that is there every day to help continuously improve the community. They also help with assisting residents with any issues that may arise within their new home. An added benefit that is great due to New England’s winters is that the maintenance staff will move and clear off all of the resident’s vehicles when winter storms happen.
There is a concierge at the front desk 24/7 who answers phone calls, monitors who is coming in and out of the community, handles emergencies within the community itself and emergencies involving residents.
There are activities and events ran by the programming department that take place every day, with an amazing range of variety to include every resident. There are outing trips, concerts, activities that promote mental and physical stimulation, and so much more!
